The producer of the upcoming BBC documentary David Bowie: Finding Fame are hoping that the footage purported to be Bowie’s first televised performance as Ziggy Stardust can be restored in time for use in their film. A fan-taped copy of the 1972 performance will be featured because the BBC says their copy was erased by a technician years ago.
The footage is currently being "baked" in an incubator so that it can be remastered. Producer Francis Whately calls the footage "something of a Holy Grail." (This is not that footage.)
