#WhatsHappening for January 3, 2019

New year, new... nah, fuck it.

Hope you all enjoyed ringing in the new year. Me, I had all intention of helping our friends at the Iron Horse count down Monday night, and instead spent pretty much from Sunday night around midnight until Tuesday evening around 6 asleep- except from around 7AM Monday until... uh... now- battling a really nasty stomach bug. And the something like 24 hours of fever hovering between 101 and 102.6 was especially spectacular.

Anyway, I can't thank Mark enough for stepping in for me.

Hey, GEICO- no. Stop with the recycled caveman commercials before another network dipshit gets it in their head that the premise would make a good sitcom.

Keyboardist Daryl Dragon- best known as half of the bestselling 70s duo the Captain & Tennille, died New Year's in Arizona. Toni Tennille, Dragon's ex-wife "was with him as he took his last breath" according to a spokesperson.
Tennille called her ex-husband and musical partner "a brilliant musician with many friends who loved him greatly. I was at my most creative in my life when I was with him." The couple divorced in 2014 after 39 years of marriage.
Dragon also played with the Beach Boys, whose Mike Love is said to have given him his stage name of "Captain"- calling him "the Captain of the keyboard" during band introductions.

Courtney Love and Frances Bean Cobain have been granted a permanent restraining order against Love's ex-manager Sam Lutfi.
The judge who issued the order remembered Lutfi from a previous case involving Britney Spearsna and granted a five-year PRO in the case, noting that Lufti "seems to prey upon people." A temporary restraining order had been granted in December after Love accused Lutfi of harassing her and her family with emails, texts and phone calls in an effort to recoup money he alleges she owed him.
Love’s attorney said the "escalating verbal harassment and threats... left no choice for Courtney and her family but to seek protection" and added the family was "grateful for the anti-harassment order issued by the Los Angeles Superior Court against Mr. Lutfi and the powers it provides law enforcement to assure that Mr. Lutfi terminates all contact with the family."

As we shared yesterday, legendary funk bassist Bootsy Collins has announced he will no longer be performing live shows.

Collins told his Facebook followers that is was time "to tell all our Funkateers that I will not be playing bass in concerts anymore. Doc said too much pressure on my inner ear and right hand." He added that he wasn't going anywhere, and would be coaching up-and-coming musicians and continuing to do studio work.
"Just remember that this year will be the funkiest year of them all," he wrote. "Watch for it."
