Soulja Boy was sentenced to eight months in jail today for violating the terms of his probation on weapons charges from 2014. The Van Nuys Superior Court judge in the case initially considered sentencing the rapper to two years, but relented to allow him to pursue business opportunities.
In a statement to Billboard, Soulja Boy's attorney said his client was "committed to comply with all orders of the court and probation department."

Opening statements in the involuntary manslaughter trial of the promoters of the the Ghost Ship Warehouse electronic music show began today with prosecutors reciting the names of the 36 victims of who died in a 2016 blaze there, saying the victims "all died because there was no notice, time or exits" at the Oakland venue.
The pair have been in jail since being charged, and a plea deal they'd agreed to with prosecutors was rejected as "too lenient" by the presiding judge last summer.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
