Rappers Swizz Beatz and Timbaland have filed suit against the music video app Triller, alleging the company behind the app owes them $28 million after it acquired their livestream rap show, Verzuz.
The two began the virtual battle series in March 2020 on Instagram Live, and announced less than a year later they'd agreed to sell it to Triller for undisclosed terms. They claim that the company failed to make an agreed payment to them in January- and has since failed to make a promised $18 million payment by March, as well as subsequent $1 million a month payments since.
A spokesperson for the company claims it has paid "over $50 million" in cash and stock, and says the duo has failed to meet their prescribed threshold that would trigger the additional payments, calling the suit "nothing more than a performance dispute. Only one payment of $10 million was in question. We don’t believe they have met the thresholds for that payment yet, but have been trying to resolve it amicably."
The company has been accused separately by multiple creators of failing to make promised payments under an announced $14 million program with 300 Black influencers to create content, according a to report in the Washington Post earlier this month and, in early 2021, Universal Music Group pulled its music catalog from the app, alleging the company wasn’t paying artists for the use of their music. That dispute was resolved in may of the same year.

AMC Theatres is honoring the late Olivia Newton-John by bringing Grease back to the big screen beginning this weekend, with $1 of the $5 ticket price going towards breast cancer research.
I tried to track down the closest theater showing the movie, but AMC's web page wasn't cooperating.

Lazzarus, who fronted Q Lazzarus And The Resurrection, is best known for the track Goodbye Horses, written by bandmate William Garvey and featured in the films Married To The Mob and during the seriously-fucking-creeping Buffalo Bill dance sequence in The Silence of the Lambs. She also appeared in Philadelphia, performing the Talking Heads’ Heaven. She retired from music in the mid-90s and was working as a Staten Island bus driver as of 2019.
