#WhatsHappening for March 24, 2019

What can I say? I've been busy. And it's not like you're paying for content.

Have I mentioned that I finally watched Bohemian Rhapsody, and that you should totally watch it, and Rami Malek totally deserved that Oscar? If not, well- now I have. If I already did, this is your reminder!

State Farm Arena in Atlanta saw $10 million in ticket sales for the three-night Super Bowl Music Fest, according to venue GM Trey Feazell.
In an interview with Billboard, Feazall says the recently completed, $192 million renovation of the building helped make the show a more pleasant experience for everyone involved- particularly the fans. Interestingly enough, none of the shows were sellouts- the second show, featuring Aerosmith and Post Malone saw less than 13,000 seats sold, and the Bruno Mars/Cardi B show the night before the game sold just over 14,000 tickets. The fact that the sales for the Ludacris/Migos concert were publicized would lead one to believe the sales were even weaker.
I haven't been to the "new" arena, so I can't comment on the changes, but I liked the club level- which has evidently been eliminated to give a more "inclusive experience." Why? Because it meant not having to deal with dumbasses as much since you couldn't access the area without a ticket to for a seat in the area. I'm personally happy to pay a premium to avoid idiots.

Speaking of musical biopics- word is that the upcoming Elton John flick, Rocketman, will be getting an R rating from the MPAA- in part because of its portrayal of John's drug use.
I saw a preview for it before Captain Marvel and I must say it looked pretty good- and, if it really is a "no holds barred" look at John's life as advertised, we may be seeing Taron Egerton holding an Oscar next February.

I've said many times that I don't believe in censorship- but I'm a big fan of knowing when something is appropriate to say (though I often fall woefully short on that restraint).
Sometimes, you just need to keep your mouth shut. You'd think people in the public eye would be cognizant of that.

Paul Simon may be done with touring, but he's not done with live performances- as he indicated when he announced his "retirement" last year. That, he says, is part of the reason he decided to agree to headline the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco.
Simon will be donating the entire net proceeds from his performance to local environmental non-profits, according to festival promoters Another Planet Entertainment. The rest of the festival's lineup will be announced Tuesday for the August shows.
"I’m looking forward with great anticipation to playing at Golden Gate Park this summer," Simon said in a statement. "This will be my first appearance there, and it’s an honor to join the long line of musicians who’ve given the park its sanctified musical heritage. I’m equally pleased to be playing in San Francisco with its well-deserved reputation for being in the forefront of environmental issues. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be of service to this vital cause."

I never had to deal with Barney, or Thomas the Tank Engine, or Teletubbies, or any of the other maddening children's TV shows, but wasn't Dora the Explorer an animated show?
Well, get ready for a live-action movie- whether the public wanted it or not.

Speaking of "whether the public wanted it or not," did we really need a "live-action" remake of Dumbo? Or any remake of Dumbo
And, after seeing the trailer for the upcoming remake of The Lion King, I just have to ask "why"? Also, subbing CGI animation for the hand-drawn original doesn't make for a live action movie, no matter how good the animation is.

It's not exactly music-related (except for the good choices they make for classic rock tunes on their soundtrack), but I'm bummed that Supernatural will be coming to an end after their 2019-2020 season- their 15th. I've been watching since the show debuted, way back when they were on the WB. They were, if I recall, the only show I watched on the network, and they're the only one I watch on their current home, the CW.
Assbutt!
