#WhatsHappening for June 20, 2017

We're gonna need a bigger boat.
Hey, ho kids. Hope you've managed to stay dry today because, as Supertramp said- it's raining again. I mean, summer may not start until tomorrow, but we've been doing the summer afternoon thunderstorm thing at the karaoke compound for a while now- and today's showers were more like a torrent.

New York rap legend Prodigy has died, according to a representative for the artist.
"It is with extreme sadness and disbelief that we confirm the death of our dear friend Albert Johnson, better known to millions of fans as Prodigy of legendary NY rap duo Mobb Deep," a statement from the rep read. "We would like to thank everyone for respecting the family's privacy at this time."
The 42 year old had hospitalized over the weekend due to complications caused by a sickle cell crisis, but the exact cause of death has not been determined.

The Library of Congress announced today that Tony Bennett, has been named as the recipient of this year's Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.
The lifetime achievement award, named for the duo of George and Ira Gershwin, was created to honor singers and songwriters who entertain, inform and inspire. Past recipients include Paul McCartney, Willie Nelson, Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder.
"His staying power is a testament to the enduring appeal of the Great American Songbook the Gershwins helped write, and his ability to collaborate with new generations of music icons has been a gift to music lovers of all ages," Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden said in a statement.
Bennett said that "receiving an award named in (the Gershwin's) honor is one of the greatest thrills of my career, and I am deeply appreciative to the Library of Congress to be named this year's recipient."
Bennett is scheduled to accept the award in Washington in November.

Birthdays today include: Twiggy Ramirez of Marilyn Manson (45); Murphy Karges of Sugar Ray (49); John Taylor of Duran Duran (57); Michael Anthony of Van Halen (62); Lionel Richie (68); Anne Murray (72); and Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys (75). #MusicalBirthdays
