Hey kids, what's shaking? Hope you've enjoyed you weekend so far. We certainly didn't let some afternoon storms didn't dampen the mood at Saturday Night Karaoke last night. If you missed it, make sure you join us next week for all the fun. (Pips not included.)
Call your dad today! Better yet, go see him! While you still can.
Presiding Judge Steven O'Neill announced a mistrial in the sexual assault trial of Bill Cosby yesterday when jurors failed to reach a verdict after 52 hours of deliberation, which he called "probably one of the most courageous acts I've ever seen."
Presiding Judge Steven O'Neill announced a mistrial in the sexual assault trial of Bill Cosby yesterday when jurors failed to reach a verdict after 52 hours of deliberation, which he called "probably one of the most courageous acts I've ever seen."
While Cosby's wife, Camille, called the decision a "manifestation of justice, based on facts, not lies," plenty of people weren't so forgiving in their assessments. Lena Dunham opined the trial was "about much more than Bill Cosby. When women see justice served, their own fear & trauma are eased. When they don't...Survivors of sexual assault have to watch every day as the legal system calls them liars and denies their truth. It is an unimaginable grind" and Kumail Nanjiani asked "...How will Cosby ever get an unbiased jury? Who doesn't know him or have some sort of association with him?"
One thing that everyone seems to be getting wrong, though- a mistrial is absolutely not the same thing as a "not guilty" verdict. Prosecutors may decide to retry the case without fear of violating Cosby's rights, and attorney Gloria Allred, who represents many of the accusers, said, "justice will come."
Graham Nash hasn't been shy about venting his anger with bandmate David Crosby over the past two years, but the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young singer says an even greater disdain for President Donald Trump and the current administration doesn't preclude the group reuniting.
"Here’s how I feel about it: I believe that the issues that are keeping us apart pale in comparison to the good that we can do if we get out there and start talking about what’s happening," Nash said. "So I’d be totally up for it even though I’m not talking to David and neither is Neil. But I think that we’re smart people in the end and I think we realize the good that we can do."
Nash had previously ruled out any sort of reunion, calling Crosby "just fucking awful" in an interview with Dutch magazine Lust For Life, and adding "I’ve been there and saved his fucking ass for 45 years, and he treated me like shit. … David has ripped the heart out of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young"
All that falls by the wayside, though, when it comes to Nash's disfdain for Trump.
"You have to keep up your will to fight. You have to research your subject matter so that when people ask you about them you have good answers, true answers, you need to feel something before you create something like a song that could change the world, you have to remain really vigilant and strong. We cannot let this man undermine everything we have fought for over the last 30 years, which is what’s happening by the way. You couldn’t possibly write this script and have it accepted in Hollywood, they would laugh you out of the office. ‘Then this guy becomes president and did what?’ It’s a crazy story."
"We need the younger generation," Nash says. "People like me, Jackson (Browne) and Bonnie (Raitt), we’ve been doing benefits for 40 years and we need the younger generation, particularly people like Lady Gaga, with what’s she got, 80 million people following her on Instagram or Facebook? We need those people that have incredible followings to be able to take a stand and bring information to their followers."
