#WhatsHappening for June 12, 2017

Good Monday morning, kids. As good as it can be- considering it's a Monday.

With Prince’s birthday last week, former Paisley Park employees have launched a new foundation in his honor.
The nonprofit PRN (Prince Rogers Nelson) Alumni Foundation is dedicated to aiding the causes and charities that Prince supported during his lifetime.
Former Paisley Park Enterprises president Craig Rice said in a statement that "Prince’s philanthropic activities are an important component of his legacy. Therefore, our goal is to continue supporting the charitable initiatives that were important to him. His financial generosity, most often anonymous, helped provide opportunities for underprivileged youth to pursue their dreams in music, the arts and education."

Today's most frightening Billboard headline: Sisqo's 'The Thong Song' Gets Tropical Update From JCY
Because the original wasn't a big enough piece of shit.

Aretha Franklin was honored over the weekend in her home town of Detroit.
The Detroit Music Weekend festival included the naming of a street in Franklin's honor, along with a tribute concert and a free show from Franklin herself- which the Queen of Soul mentioned might be her last.
"I hope not, but it's possible. It's still moving in that direction. It's winding down. There's a warranty on everything. Fifty-four years of traveling and flying... can be very tiring. I'm not happy, exactly, about doing something that you've been doing for 54 years that you really, really love. But nothing lasts forever."

Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood have been tapped to host the CMA Awards for the tenth straight year.
The show will be held at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on November 8 and air live on ABC.

Birthdays today include: Kenny Wayne Shepherd (40); Bardi Martin of Candlebox (48); Grandmaster Dee of Whodini (55); Michael Hausman of 'til tuesday (57); John Linnell of They Might Be Giants (58); and Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick (66). #MusicalBirthdays
