Longtime Bay City Rollers bassist Alan Longmuir, one of the band's founders, has died after a short illness.
Family friend Liam Rudden said he was "devastated by the news," calling Longmuir "one of the most gentle, generous and kind-hearted people I have ever known."
He added that Longmuir had "touched the lives of everyone he met with a smile that made them feel special, insisting that despite his amazing adventures in life he was still just 'a plumber from Edinburgh'."
Longmuir had been in Mexico when he became ill last month and flew back to Scotland for treatment. Rudden said he was ‘surrounded by loved ones’ when he died.
Birthdays today include: Michelle Branch (35); Monie Love (48); Dave Parsons of Bush (53); Pete Briquette of Boomtown Rats (64); and Johnny Colla and Huey Lewis & The News (66). #MusicalBirthdays
