It's only been three weeks.

Hello there. What's new with you?
Just a reminder- no Saturday Night Karaoke this week. We'll see you again on the 28th.

I suppose the big news (this week, anyway) was the death of David Crosby. The Byrds/CSN/CSNY singer/songwriter was 81.
I would not dispute for a single second that Crosby was a hell of a creative mind- and the songs he helped bring to life are some of the most notable in rock history. Still- in every story, interview, profile, whatever of the man- he almost invariably came off as a supercilious prick. While I can empathize with the family and friends he left behind, I find it difficult to write a glowing tribute with that sticking in my mind.
So, thanks for the music- and rest in peace.

Also passing away since last we were here was guitarist Jeff Beck. I'm not a guitar guy (not even close to talented enough or dedicated enough), but I do recognize the incredible mastery he displayed on pretty much every piece of music he ever performed. He was 78.

What else... Oh- the University of Georgia won its second straight national championship. Congrats to them, and condolences, as well, after the death of one of their players in the aftermath of their celebration last week.
Young people see themselves as immortal (I know I did- though I was convinced I wouldn't make it past 30)- but nothing good's gonna happen at 2:45 in the morning when the car you're in is moving at excessive speed and you aren't wearing seatbelts.
♫♫♫♫
Lisa Marie Presley also passed away since last we were here- a victim of heart disease, same as her father (and maternal grandmother). She was interred at Graceland yesterday and a private memorial service will be held this morning. A public service will be streamed online tomorrow morning, beginning at 9:50am Eastern via the estate's Livestream page.

Let me take a moment to mention how absolutely fucking stupid you are if you're upset about Pink Floyd being "woke" because of their posting of this image to their social media. You aren't worth arguing with, either- because you're not only an idiot, you're woefully ignorant of rock and roll- and pretty much the entirety of the careers of band and its members.
My dislike is from a pure design standpoint- it just seems to me the record company's marketing department (or whoever) could have put a bit more thought into the graphic.
♫♫♫♫
There's pretty much nobody performing on Diane Warren's new composition, Gonna Be You, but I don't care to hear it because fuck the Patriots (and Tom Brady).
♫♫♫♫
With only one act (Elton John) confirmed for Glastonbury 2023, Duff McKagan seems to have confirmed Guns N' Roses will be performing at the festival.
While discussing the band's scheduled gig in Hyde Park in London the week after Glastonbury, McKagan added that  "Glastonbury is gonna be iconic"- though he declined to expound on the statement. Fans lost their shit. Of course, it's entirely possible he meant he intended to attend the famed event and was looking forward to it.

Margot Robbie told NME "Stevie Nicks would be fun" when asked what rocker she'd like to portray on-screen. She also included Janis Joplin- though mentioning "everyone has been trying to do (that one) for a long time.."
Lindsay Lohan was said to be up for the role of Nicks in 2011, but Nicks denied the Rumours (see what I did there?).
Robbie’s Babylon co-star Diego Calva when a bit off the beaten path when asked the same question. "Can you imagine a biopic of Frank Zappa? I don’t know if I’m the guy but that would be a cool movie. I’d have to grow the 'stache."

Birthdays today include: Status Quo drummer Pete Kircher (78); Billy Ocean (73); Geena Davis (67); Robbie Benson (67); Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack (58); Cat Power (52); Chris Kilmore of Incubus (50); and "Baby Spice" Emma Bunton of Spice Girls (47). #MusicalBirthdays
