#WhatsHappening for September 29, 2020

I mean, really. I told you I wasn't promising anything.

So, here we go: How is everyone? Hope you're all registered to vote, and will do so. No need to tell me who you're voting for, though I make no secret of my leanings. The important thing is that you vote- especially the 108 million plus of you who didn't bother in 2016.

That the upcoming election is really only the second biggest news in the United States right now just demonstrates how badly we keep fucking up. Personally, I'm trying my damnedest- but one guy can only do so much. I've kept my going anywhere to a minimum (I've been to lunch with coworkers maybe six times since March, and most of those were after 1:30 or so, and the places we went were nearly empty- but I also haven't done that in about a month, either). Doctors' visits have been it for me, really. If I pick up prescriptions from the pharmacy, I use the drive thru. If I need to get gas, I pay at the pump.
Honestly, though- it's just not much of a change for me, other than not going to lunch with my co-workers. It was rare that I went anywhere other than the tavern on Saturdays to work, though I totally understand that there are people who are going batshit crazy at home! I posted this on Facebook a while back, but if you want to send me a video of yourself singing, we can do a kind of "virtual" karaoke. I suggest sharing via Google drive or something similar, and emailing the link to me.

And, oh yeah... get a damned flu shot! Especially this year!

Have you checked out the new Public Enemy album yet? What You Gonna Do When The Grid Goes Down? is a pretty good set of tunes, full of the commentary you'd expect from the band. Still, to me (on first listen, anyway), it just seems forced. Yes, there are some good tunes on it, and these guys are always going to write lyrics that make you think, but... meh. It just seems forced or something.  Of course, I might also still be a bit disillusioned by the whole "Flavor Flav is fired" publicity stunt.

I see where Jim Parsons tested positive for Covid. Don't know who that is? Don't worry- I truly wish I didn't. The rest of the headline for the story is "how his character would have handled the pandemic." I can answer that without reading the story, and the answer is: by being just a fucking annoying as he was the other 12 seasons of the show.

I was surprised, actually, by one of those Facebook "how many" polls one of my friends posted about TV shows we'd seen. Out of 100, my "score" was a surprisingly low 13- and two of them, I wish I'd never seen.
I'm also amped and sad at the same time, knowing that new episodes of Supernatural return next Thursday (10/8), but that they're the last six episodes before the series ends.
Same thing with The Walking Dead. I'm hyped to see episode 16 of the season (which was supposed to be the season finale)- plus the other six episodes they'll have, but also bummed to know the that season 11 will be it for the survivors. Expect a big time jump at some point in season 11, to bring the conclusion a tad more in-line with the comics (which they sometimes follow, and often don't). Of course, they've already killed off one character who was (I always thought) a main character, and another one has left the show, so I might be wrong.

Deadline reports that Zendaya will star in an upcoming biopic about Ronnie Spector, Be My Baby.
The book was originally published in 1990, and recounts Spector’s career as lead singer of the Ronettes, her marriage to the Phil Spector, and her time as a solo singer.
Deadline's report says Zendaya was handpicked by Spector, and both women will serve as producers on the project.
I actually had no idea she was a singer. I just thought she was that girl who played MJ in the MCU Spider-Man movies. But we all know I'm hopelessly out of touch.

There's a remake sequel to The Craft coming on October 28th. Although, I will freely admit to being totally surprised by Blumhouse's Fantasy Island re-imagining, so- who knows?

Dolly Parton will star as angel in Christmas on the Square, coming to Netflix on November 22nd. The movie also stars Christine Baranski, Jeanine Mason, Treat Williams, and Jenifer Lewis and was directed by Debbie Allen.
There's no trailer for the movie yet, but Parton has shared a song off her Holly Dolly Christmas album being used in the movie called Christmas on the Square. That album comes out Friday.

Hologram USA is looking for legal trouble after rolling out their Whitney Houston hologram during a "virtual variety show" last week.
The company had been contracted to create the hologram for an appearance on The Voice back in 2016, but the singer's estate canceled the project, saying the image "didn't look like Whitney." The estate later began working began working with BASE, who debuted their Houston hologram in January of this year in Britain.
The owner of Hologram USA told sources he didn’t think he had to involve the estate since it was "his work to begin with."
