#WhatsHappening for September 29, 2019

Hi kids. Hope you're enjoying the last of the weekend.
Thanks to everyone who came to hang out with us at Saturday Night Karaoke last night. I'm always worried when the city decides to close down parts of the streets for festivals and such, because it makes it hard to get in and out of the area and can have an impact on how many folks come to hang out with us. You guys must have all said "screw it" last night, because the turnout was great- and there were some seriously talented singers with us.
Next weekend, though, we're going to forgo SNK due to all of the streets in downtown being closed for the Arts Festival. We'll be back on the 12th.

Anyone have any sure-fire home remedies for pinched nerves/neck pain/shoulder pain, I'm all ears. Hell, even specious ideas would be welcome at this point. I'm on day three of steroids and I can't take the painkiller during the day, as it tends to make me doze off, so- like I said- ideas are welcome.

I know I mentioned it at karaoke, but did I tell you guys I went to see The Who a couple of weeks ago?
Holy crap, what a show. The band was backed by (guessing here) some 30 members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and the sound was just incredible. I was also particularly impressed by just how energized Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend sounded.
I had tickets to see them a number of years ago- back when I still had tonsils. Unfortunately, I still had tonsils. I got a throat infection, then a sinus infection, then bronchitis, and had to skip the show. A few weeks later, Jonn Entwistle passed away. I figured I'd better not skip this one.

Make your plans now to join us for all the fun at our 10th Annual Costumes & Karaoke Party at the Iron Horse Tavern, coming up Saturday, October 26th.
we'll have music, costumes, prizes, and all sorts of fun. And, for the first time in I can't remember how long, Mark won't win any prizes, since he'll be hosting!

Shakira and Jennifer Lopez have been enlisted as the Super Bowl's halftime performers. Like so many halftime spectacles of years past, no thanks. I still say none of them will ever hold a candle to Prince's show.

Mexican artists' association ANDI confirmed yesterday that crooner José José died in Florida at the age of 71 after battling pancreatic cancer.
The singer topped the Latin charts multiple times throughout the 70s and 80s with canciones like El Triste and Amar y querer. He also enjoyed international success in a wide array of nations like Japan and Russia while performing until as recently as 2017, despite a number of other health problems.
Gloria Estefan said José José  "squeezed our hearts with his unmistakable voice and left an indelible mark on the world of music."

In a Twitter post Friday, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Rob Trujillo apologized to fans and announced that Metallica would be canceling its upcoming tour in Australia and New Zealand in the wake of James Hetfield's entering rehab. They added that refunds would be automatically issued to those who'd already bought tickets.
The post said Hetfield has struggled with addiction for years and has re-entered a treatment program, but didn't elaborate other than to say that the band's members appreciated fans’ understanding and support.
