Okay, so funny thing I saw when logging in to post this morning: A notice from Blogger (the platform I use) that a post (from, like 2016 or something) "was unpublished because it violates Blogger Community Guidelines. To republish, please update the content to adhere to guidelines."

I'm not exactly sure why it is that I have to repeat this same bit of blather every now and then, but...
Remember when you were a kid, and there was always that one kid who'd insist they get to make the rules for the game because it was their ball (or Atari or whatever)? Well, consider me that kid. All the equipment (mics, amp, monitor, flashy lights, songs, etc.) are my "ball" and that means I'm the one who makes the rules, such as the one "rule" about signups being done online only.
Yes, I am able to look up songs on the laptop I use. That's how I put in songs for myself. However, in the interest of people not "hovering" around me, I don't do that for others. Sometimes, yes, I will bend that rule (that's the great thing about being the HMFIC)- but I can, with 100% certainty, guaran-fucking-ty you that I will not do so if the first thing out of your mouth when you approach me is cop an attitude.
I absolutely do not care that you "don't have one of those stupid fucking smartphones", and will be far less than cooperative if that's the first thing you say to me- instead of putting in a tad more diplomatically and asking for a waiver. And when you immediately follow it up with the online system being "fucking stupid" and that it's "bullshit" that you can't "just tell (me) what (you) want to sing." (As my mother used to say [and I admittedly sometimes fail to remember myself] is that "you can catch more flies with honey".) Seriously, if every single other person in the place- including the patrons who have reached the age where they can collect their full Social Security benefits- can manage to navigate the exceedingly simple system, then you're being a techno-idiot is not my problem.

Session bassist Michael Rhodes, inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2019, passed away at his home in Nashville yesterday.
Born in Louisiana, Rhodes played in bands in Austin and Memphis before settling in Nashville in 1977 and joining the Nerve and Tree Publishing demo band, and eventually worked with artists ranging from Etta James to Joan Baez to Willie Nelson to Bob Seger, Elton John, and Shawn Colvin. He also played on both versions of the award winning How Do I Live in 1997. He was also a regular in Joe Bonamassa’s band.
He was 69. No cause of death was given.

Indiana University President Pamela Whitten announced Friday that the school would be the recipient of John Mellencamp's archived collection of his life and work- including original creative works, photographs, instruments, and memorabilia from his musical career, artwork, social activism and philanthropy. "His collection will be an incredible resource for arts scholars and a clear source of inspiration to our students," Whitten said.
A sculpture honoring Mellencamp will be commissioned for the Bloomington campus, to be installed on-campus near the school's Fine Arts Plaza.

The LA Times reports that LA session player David Lindley died on Friday at the age of 78. The Times' report said Lindley had been ill "for a number of months."
Playing guitar and fiddle, Lindley played on Jackson Browne's For Everyman, Late for the Sky, and Running On Empty albums, as well as providing session work for tracks by Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart, and others.
Graham Nash called Lindley "one of the most talented musicians there has ever been. David could play pretty much any instrument you put in front of him with incredible versatility and expression."

Shelby and I watched Elvis Thursday and, despite the presence of Tom Hanks (I'm just not really a fan of most of his post-League of Their Own work, with a few exceptions, this being one), I thought it was a well done movie (though I also could have done without some of the "modern reinterpretations" of his songs they included).
That means I've seen all of one of the performances on the guys nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars tonight- and all of one of the films nominated for Best Picture- though I totally want to see All Quiet on the Western Front and I've had Everything Everywhere All At Once ready to watch for about six months now (I just end up watching something else that I don't have to focus on- like, we just finished re-watching the MCU flicks ahead of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's release because I thought it would be cool to see in 3D- and the damned thing had ZERO 3D showing at our regular theater in it's SECOND WEEK OF RELEASE, but that's an entirely different thing altogether.)
The only other acting nominee's performance I've seen is Angela Basset's as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Ms. Basset is always good, but I would love for my long-time crush (Jamie Lee Curtis) to pick up a trophy. I'd also be tickled if "Short Round" won an Oscar.
