#Whaddup for October 30, 2022

Sup, slick? Yeah, I've been AWOL. Whaddaya do?I mean, it's not like you're paying for this. I get in ruts- I think we all do. Anyway, on with the show...
Just a reminder, no Saturday Night Karaoke this week. We'll be back November 12th.

I guess the big news is that Jerry Lee Lewis died Friday. He was 87.
Lewis was, of course, a pioneering rock artist- but, also, a terribly troubled one with a problematic personal legacy. And therein lies the rub- people seem to be glossing over the shitty aspects of his character in their glowing remembrances. I don't really have problem with honoring those who've passed on- but don't ignore the unsavory things they did in the rush to paint some glowing, saintly picture of them.

Dolly Parton said earlier this year she didn't really feel she was deserving of being inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but she would like to do a rock record to attempt to be worthy of the honor. Now, she wants Robert Plant and Jimmy Page to help her out on a cover Stairway to HeavenThe last time the Led Zeppelin stars performed together was in 2007.
Parton said the songs she wanted to do for her proposed rock album were her "husband's idea" but he didn't care for her idea to cover for a second time what many fans consider to be Zeppelin's signature tune, but she's "going to redo that really on the money."
"I did it kind of bluegrass-style when I (first) did it; but when I do the rock album, I’m going to actually re-record it- and do it more true to the regular record. I’m trying to see if Robert Plant might sing on it. Maybe Jimmy Page might do the pick-up part on it. I’m looking forward to dragging in some of the great classic people, girls and boys, to sing on some of the songs. I’m not far enough along to discuss who and what, but I am going to do an album."
Page has long held that he'd be game for reviving Led Zeppelin, but Plant remains uninterested- claiming earlier this year it wouldn't "satisfy my need to be stimulated" and said that many classic rockers come across as "sadly decrepit."
The 2022 induction ceremony happens in LA Saturday night and will be available to stream later this month. Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Duran Duran, Eurythmics, Carly Simon, Lionel Richie and Eminem will be inducted, along with Ms. Parton.

Dead Kennedys drummer D.H. Peligro died Friday at the age of 63, after suffering "from trauma to the head caused by an accidental fall" at his Los Angeles home, according to a statement from his family.
"Arrangements are pending and will be announced in the coming days. We ask that you respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time. Thank you for your thoughts and words of comfort," the statement added.
D.H. Peligro replaced original Dead Kennedys drummer Ted in 1981, makinghis debut on the In God We Trust, Inc., EP and played with them until their breakup in 1986, when he joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers as a replacement for Jack Irons, but was fired less than a year into the gig due to drug and alcohol issues.
He reunited with his Dead Kennedys bandmates reunited in 2011 and remained a member up until his death.

In the wake of Mick Mars' retirement last Wednesday, Mötley Crüe has named Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 as Mars' replacement in their touring lineup. Even before the announcement, 5 had been posting pictures of himself with Crüe band members to his own social media pages.
In the statement that Mars' representative issued Wednesday, he would "continue as a member of the band," but would no longer do live shows. Crüe’s statemen Thursday, seems to indicate otherwise. Here's the statement in full:
"While change is never easy, we accept Mick’s decision to retire from the band due to the challenges with his health. We have watched Mick manage his Ankylosing Spondylitis for decades and he has always managed it with utmost courage and grace. To say ‘enough is enough’ is the ultimate act of courage. Mick’s sound helped define Mötley Crüe from the minute he plugged in his guitar at our very first rehearsal together. The rest, as they say, is history. We’ll continue to honor his musical legacy. We will carry out Mick’s wish and continue to tour the world as planned in 2023. No doubt will it take an absolutely outstanding musician to fill Mick’s shoes so we are grateful that our good friend John 5 has agreed to come on board and join us moving forward. We’ll see you Crüeheads out on the road! Vince, Tommy, & Nikki."
Honestly, I could have sworn the entire band had done a farewell tour something like three years ago. Or maybe it's one of those endless tours- like the perpetual "Going Out of Business" sales furniture stores have.

Malcolm in the Middle's Frankie Muniz says Emmy powerhouse Bryan Cranston is leading an effort to get "everything rolling" on a revival of the show.
Muniz told Fox News Digital that he'd recently watched the show with his wife, viewing it from a fan perspective, and says he'd "love to know what the family’s up to." He went on to add that "...Bryan Cranston is really into the idea and he’s kind of heading writing the script and getting everything rolling. So, there might be something. I would be down 100 percent. But I don’t know- we’ll see what happens."
In a 2016 Reddit AMA, Cranston said there'd been "conversation" about a movie based on the show, but didn't "know if or when that could happen, I guess we have to gauge the temperament of the fans to see if (it’s) something they want."
