Hi, ho, howdy kids. Got your bread and milk yet?
Long before I got a job in television, I was always ... well, amazed isn't really the word I'm looking for, but I guess it'll do... how all the weather guys would go into a tizzy about even the remotest chance of weather that didn't involve sun
or afternoon showers (and this was back before we had 300 channels of crap on TV, including a channel solely devoted to weather forecasts). Once I worked there, I was no less astounded when NOAA sent an alert over the wire that there was any sort of tropical depression forming off the coast of northern Africa and the in-house weather wonk started bouncing around the studio like a coked-up Jack Russell, cooking up apocalyptic scenarios for the area.
Judging by my Facebook feed, it doesn't look like the talking heads have calmed down even a little- despite the fact that forecasting models are vastly improved in the 30-plus years since I was "in the business."
Now, dont get me wrong, I'm not saying you shouldn't be prepared, or that you should ignore advisories or warnings- I'm just saying some common sense might be in order.

Ever have one of those nights (or days) when you get home from work with grand plans to get XXX and XXX and XXX done, then proceed to park yourself and do fuck-all?
That's my past five years, I think! I really want to make some bookcases (because we need 'em) and I've made zero progress.
I've had time, and for three of the past five years, I've had access to some rather fancy equipment I could use to cut out parts that would, basically, require some screws and paint to be nice bookcases- all ready to be filled.
Oh well, there's tomorrow, right?

What I'm wondering is how will they tell her from "contestants"?

Gretchen Wilson appeared in a Connecticut court today in connection with her arrest at an airport there last month on disturbing the peace.
Despite Wilson's previous claims that the charges weren't true, the Redneck Woman singer agreed to make a $500 donation to a charity for injured crime victims in exchange for the charges being dropped. After leaving court, Wilson repeated her claim that she was targeted because of her celebrity.
Wilson was arrested at Bradley International Airport near Hartford on the way to a show at the Mohegan Sun casino after being involved in an altercation with another passenger on her flight, then becoming "belligerent" with troopers who responded.
